Meg Kennedy
Coach Emeritus Meg Kennedy, a proud 1992 graduate of Mount Saint Joseph Academy, is the driving force behind the school's nationally recognized crew program. Her passion for rowing was ignited during her time at Drexel University where she earned a BS in Bioscience, and later a MS in Scientific Communications, and now fuels her dedication to coaching and mentoring the next generation of Mount rowers.
Meg's coaching philosophy is deeply rooted in her belief in the potential of Mount girls. "They are so inspirational," she says, "with a unique blend of grit, determination, and teamwork." This perspective, coupled with her own strong foundation in hard work and perseverance instilled during her time as a Mount student, has fostered a culture of excellence within the team.
A key factor in the program's success has been Meg's commitment to continuing the Mount tradition of competitiveness and excellence. She instills in the student-athletes a responsibility to the legacy they will leave and actively cultivates an environment where the values of competitiveness, commitment and hard work, combined with the unique sisterhood of Mounties, thrive. "It's about pushing beyond perceived limitations," she explains, "and supporting each other every step of the way." This approach has not only led to numerous victories on the water, but also fostered the personal growth and development of her athletes.
Meg's dedication to the sport and her athletes has been recognized by the rowing community, notably with her being awarded the 2021 Joseph F. Brennan Memorial Coaches Award. Beyond the accolades, Meg finds the greatest reward in witnessing her athletes grow as both rowers and individuals. "Seeing them push their limits and support each other, that's what makes it all worthwhile."
While successfully balancing her coaching responsibilities with a demanding career as President of ELM Medical LLC, Meg remains a true champion for Mount Saint Joseph Academy and its mission to empower young women.
Lois Trench-Hines (Mount Class of 1960), a pioneer in women's rowing, received the Malta Boat Club's prestigious Dr. George Morton Illman Award. A driving force behind MSJA's crew program and the establishment of Hines Rowing Center, her impact on the Schuylkill River is profound.
Mount crew honors George Hines, a dedicated rower with over 75 years of membership at Malta Boat Club. He began rowing at LaSalle College High School in 1945, later rowing at LaSalle College after serving in the Navy. His LaSalle College team excelled, and he went on to a successful coaching career, winning a national championship in 1965. He also served as Vice Chairman of the Dad Vail Association.
